“I am a hypochondriac”, admits Rosa Von Praunheim, the icon of the gay movement, right at the beginning at the film. The director, who turned seventy in 2012, is afraid of cancer, and he actually suffers from glaucoma, with osteoarthritis in his big toe. Von Praunheim is interested in alternative medicine and goes on a foray into the scene.

300 years before globalized communication and long before Facebook and Instagram, Leibniz had "friends" all over the world - more than 1,300 mail partners. For the cultural scientist Joseph Vogl from the Humboldt University in Berlin, Leibniz's way of working was something of an "information processing machine". Most of his estate is in Hanover, where Leibniz worked as a librarian and consultant at the Duke's court for 40 years. Leibniz has written so much in his life that so far only a part of the total of 200,000 pages has been recorded and published. It is expected that everything will be edited in 2055. Who was this Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz who said of himself: "Whoever knows me only from my published writings does not know me"? The film searches for Leibniz as a person. The documentary portrays the genius Leibniz in his time and always brings him back to our present. Different people have their say, and their work would not be possible without Leibniz.

IN SEARCH OF STOLEN TIME narrates how the present-day labour systems and the contemporality of time have forged themselves in mutual interference since the Middle Ages. This documentary film also makes an attempt to sketch out the future development driven by cutting-edge technologies and definitions of productivity and optimisation.

The nine year old Larissa lives in the Luneburg Heath. She is in the clique "The Timies", which is devoted to historical events and facts. In this summer holidays, Larissa's cousins from Berlin are visiting the Luneburg Heath for the first time. From now on, Emma more and more realizes that she disposes of a mysterious talent. By touching antique objects she is able to look into the past of these things. Will they be able to find this treasure? And what has this shining crystal appearing in Emma's visions to do with it?

Intercut with concert recordings and contemporary interviews, social and personal conflicts are brought to life in scenes from the Scherben. Actor and musician Nick rehearses for the role of Rio Reiser in a theater production by the old-left director Heiner Caspari. In the confrontation with his role as Rio, in the controversies with Caspari and in the collaboration with Jako, Till and Arne, who play the band members, the boundaries between past and present become blurred, and not just for Nick. The situation escalates when the group retreats to Fresenhagen, the country house of the "Scherben", in a voluntary state of emergency. Despite his love story with Caspari's daughter Julia, Nick feels attracted to Jako and at the same time perceives this mixing of role and life as manipulation by Caspari. Jako, in turn, turns to Julia. The group threatens to break apart.
